Goodbye MB, Hello DTFR: The Next Generation of Daimler Truck Specifications

DTFR refers to Daimler Truck Fluid Release specifications — a new system of fluid standards introduced by Daimler Truck AG following its separation from Mercedes-Benz Group AG. This system replaces the older Mercedes-Benz specifications and introduces a new nomenclature using unique codes, such as DTFR 15C110 for engine oils.

Each code provides detailed technical information, helping ensure that lubricants and fluids meet the precise requirements for engines, transmissions, and axles in Daimler Truck commercial vehicles. This development reflects Daimler Truck’s independence and its commitment to defining performance standards tailored to the latest generation of heavy-duty drivetrains, and Champion is right there with them.

MB Specifications and Their DTFR Successors

For industry professionals, this evolution brings both clarity and responsibility. The DTFR system provides a sharper, more precise guide for selecting compliant lubricants and fluids, ensuring optimal protection and performance for Daimler Truck vehicles.

However, staying ahead means staying informed. As new approvals and categories emerge, workshops, fleet operators, and distributors will need to adapt their portfolios, recommendations, and service practices accordingly. To help you navigate the transition, here’s a practical overview of how some key MB specifications correspond to the new DTFR* codes.

*Our tables are based on the conversion values published in Daimler Truck AG’s DTFR Overview (PDF), which supplied the key data we referenced.

There is no change to the oil formulation.

This update concerns specifications only — the high-quality fluids themselves remain unchanged. Labels and technical documents may be revised to include the DTFR code, but there are no technical modifications to the oil.
